We are looking for a part time site manager to help out from November 2022.

We are a not for profit, family owned, Community Interest Company woodland, working with a variety of local small businesses. Our aim is to restore the native woodland ecosystem by encouraging sustainable rural industry. Current collaborations include Whitelands Sawmill, children’s groups, courses with the University of Portsmouth Architecture department, and a mix of creatives/makers. We would provide access to woodland resources, equipment, space and materials plus £15 to £20 an hour depending on experience. This position might suit a retired forester or a newly self-employed land worker looking for a base.

Job description:

  • Site maintenance; path clearing and scrub clearance
  • Volunteer management
  • Small tree felling
  • Maintaining woodland infrastructure (e.g tarps and tents, fixing fences, safety checks)
  • Dynamic risk assessments
  • Preparing craft materials for courses and children’s groups
  • Assistance on ecological monitoring
  • Assisting with ongoing forestry work
  • Timber inventory
  • Record keeping

We are looking for someone who is honest, reliable and self-motivated. Our project is small but committed to making a difference. If you believe you could help us restore this active working woodland and the local community’s connection with it, we want to hear from you.

Hours: variable, an average of 10 hours per month, with a week in November and June.

Essential

  • Forestry experience
  • Basic understanding of ecology and interest in species identification
  • Proactive attitude
  • Experience of lone working (must be comfortable with this)
  • Happy working with people of all genders and backgrounds
  • Reasonable level of fitness
  • Good communicator

Desirable

  • CS30/31 chainsaw license and/or brushcutting
  • Willingness to learn new skills
  • Local to Petersfield area
  • Interest in conservation
  • Outdoor First Aid qualified
